- Development of coagulopathy INR >1.5
- Encephalopathy
- May occur suddenly in the previously healthy liver

Anything that harms the liver can cause liver failure and associated symptoms - Jaundice, hepatic encephalopathy, asterixis etc
Commonest causes:
- Acute Viral hepatitis
- Acute Paracetamol overdose
