Infection of Bone - acute pain swelling, pathological fracture

Acute a/w inflammatory reaction, fulminant, Sepsis

Chronic - present for >1 month, smouldering acute flares

  • Children - S. aureus, S. pyogenes, Kingella, Haemophilus
  • Contiguous - Skin (Staph, Strep), enteric (GNB, anaerobes)
  • Penetrating - skin flora/ environment
  • Sickle cell - Salmonella sp.

Treat with long-term antibiotics and debidement of infected Bone in severe cases

Early detection and aggressive management are crucial to prevent complications such as Bone necrosis and systemic spread of infection.
