UTI in Pregnancy should always be treated even if asymptomatic
First Trimester
- Trimethoprim should be avoided as it is teratogenic (folate antagonist with can lead to neural tube defects)
- Nitrofurantoin for 7 days - cefalexin 2nd line
Second Trimester
Third Trimester
- Nitrofurantoin should be avoided at term due to risk of neonatal haemolysis and therefore cefalexin is the best option here.
